Which UK Cities Are Worth Visiting?

So have you been thinking of exploring the UK more? Or are you visiting for the first time and you’d like to know which cities to visit?

Then keep on reading…

As someone who’s lived in the UK for more than 15 years and loves exploring, I have some things to day about the UK and it’s cities.

I’ve visited more than 20 UK cities and here is my verdict for some of them:

Brighton:

The city in just a few words: Beachy, artistic and full of surprises. Also a foodie heaven.

Is it worth visiting? Yes, yes it is.

Must do: Stroll around the beach with some fish and chips in hand (be aware of the seagulls because they steal!). Sometimes it can get a bit overcrowded so for a more authentic experience head to Lewes which is a town around 30 minute drive away from Brighton.

Cambridge:

The city in just a few words: Historical and friendly with a well known university, multicultural and with lots of greenery. It has too many parks to count! Also better than Oxford. Shhh! Let’s pretend I didn’t just say that.

Is it worth visiting? Certainly! Just avoid the summer months as it can get very very busy.

Must do: Walk down the river Cam during a warm day followed by some punting. Unusual recommendation but if you have some time head to the Mill Road cemetery for some peace and quiet.

Oxford:

The city in just a few words: Amazing architecture, well known university and history. Also has several green spaces.

Is it worth visiting? Yes! Again, it can get very busy during the summer months.

Must do: Make sure you explore the Covered Market and Cowley Road which is about a 10-15 minute walk from the city centre.

Oxford Architecture

Nottingham:

The city in just a few words: Robin Hood, great music scene (Check out Rock City and thank me later), another foodie heaven, lots of greenery.

Is it worth visiting? Of course.

Must do: Explore Hockley for some amazing artsy places, coffee shops or restaurants.

Liverpool:

The city in just a few words: Foodie heaven, the most amazing accent (another unpopular opinion), it has everything you could ever need, friendly people.

Is it worth visiting? Of course I had to say yes to my favourite UK city!

Must do: For the best night out Liverpool is the place to go. For the art lovers, check out Tate Modern.

Newcastle:

The city in just a few words: Great people (and lovely accent), lots of greenery and good nightlife.

Is it worth visiting? For sure!

Must do: Make sure you visit The Quayside for some cool views and if you’re around then why not visit the famous Angel Of The North!

Newcastle Nightlife

London:

The city in just a few words: Diverse, heaven for all the foodies as well as for art and culture lovers.

Is it worth visiting? Yes! However please avoid Oxford Street! Also make sure you plan where to go before visiting for a smoother and more pleasant experience.

Must do: Depending on your mood or interests you could go for food, to the markets, for shopping, to watch a show! You could literally do whatever your heart desires in London!

London Food Markets

Manchester:

The city in just a few words: Artsy, quirky and hipsterish. Shopping heaven.

Is it worth visiting? Yes.

Must do: Explore the Northern Quarter.

Birmingham:

The city in just a few words: Good place for shopping and diverse food scene.

Is it worth visiting? Eh. You could visit if there is nowhere better to go to.

Must do: Try and catch a music or a comedy show. The Christmas markets in Birmingham are also very popular.

Norwich:

The city in just few words: Quirky architecture and interesting shops.

Is it worth visiting: Definitely.

Must do: Stroll around the city followed by a yoga session at Norwich Yoga Central

Bristol:

The city in just a few words: Unique and artsy.

Is it worth visiting? Certainly!

Must do: Go on a graffiti hunt, experience the famous nightlife or catch some waves at The Wave.

Bath:

The city in just a few words: Historical and nice architecture.

Is it worth visiting? Yes!

Must do: Visit the Roman Baths.

Reading:

The city in just a few words: Okay. Many agree that it’s not a great place to visit.

Is it worth visiting? Eh. Again, Visit if there isn’t anywhere better to go to.

Must do: Since Reading didn’t make it to our UK bucket list, I suggest skipping it altogether and going to Henley-On-Thames instead which is about a 30 minute drive from Reading. You can thank me later!
