48 hours in Gothenburg, Sweden
Gothenburg is not the most popular Swedish destination but I am here to argue it’s worth experiencing. Even just for 48 hours.
My Overall Impressions
It’s a very cute city, sunny in the summer (I was lucky as I went early June and the temperature during the day was well above 20°C). Even the Swedes were talking about it (I thought only us in the UK were going on about the weather all the time).
Accommodation
When I was looking for a place to stay, I came across hotel Pigalle at the heart of the city. I didn’t research much before going there but once I stepped inside I realised how special it was.
Just see for yourselves:
The sign below made me smile.
If I could describe the hotel in a few words it would be: Mysterious, fun & unique.
At some point I also felt like I was in a scene of The Shining.
Overall, staff was great, smiley and helpful. Price wise, I think it was very fair for a nice hotel. Two nights at the hotel costs about £200 in total.
What I loved was the little rooftop bar, food, and breakfast. If the pictures don’t make you drool then there’s something wrong with you.
The Food Scene
I don’t think you will struggle too much if you’re looking for good food in Gothenburg. I was after some mexican food so I ended up going to Salsa&Salsa. The decor is exactly what I needed. And the food. And the cocktails.
Also, the nachos were the best nachos experience I’ve had to date.
The Transport System
I didn’t expect anything less from the Swedish. Their public transport system is fairly simple and easy to navigate. The airport itself it’s about a 30ish minute bus ride to the centre so don’t be afraid to use it.
The Nature
I rate Gothenburg’s nature a 10/10. Think of lakes, parks and lots of greenery. Also everyone seemed to have so much fun!
The Swedish Men
I am shamelessly ending this post with this because a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. One thing I noticed about Swedish men is that most of them are tall, have nice hair and are nicely dressed. Just in case you cared!
